What do you get when you combine traditional Middle Eastern textile craft with modernist design classics? Very cool one-of-a-kind furniture that you can't help but fall in love with from Bokja. Bokja is a Beirut-based design studio founded by Hoda Baroudi and Maria Hibri with the goal to combine the handicraft of local skilled artisans with the sleek lines of modernist furniture. The balanced juxtaposition makes for a very exciting collection.
It comes as no surprise that their pieces are featured if Elle Decor, Wallpaper and the like and are in the homes of celebrities including Sandra Bullock, Kate Hudson and Julia Roberts, among others. They recently featured their designs at Design Miami.

London-based designer Jason Iftakhar created the Raw Bench from cardboard and strapping material commonly used in shipping. This surprisingly sturdy bench has an interesting profile, which gives it some extra aesthetic appeal. I wonder if the asymmetrical angles are also functional and help make it strong.

Loyal Loot Collective makes these amazing bowls carved out of rough logs (bark still intact) and hollows out the top in a bowl form that is lacquered with wild, glossy color.
The juxtapositions of rough/shiny, rustic/slick, earthy/colorful are what make this collection so irresistible.

Tom Price is the designer/artist behind all those melted polypropylene object chairs. I first discovered him when one of the first Meltdown chairs were circulating the blogsphere, made from heavy blue rope. Above, is a chair that's part of a series commissioned by Arts Co. for the exhibition 'From Now To Eternity'. The chairs are made from discarded polyester fleece clothing. They were featured at the recent London Design Festival.
To see the current range of Tom Price's Meltdown chairs, read on.
